Website Update – Friends of Madrona Woods

Friends of Madrona Woods is a group of Madrona residents who, in 1996, ‘adopted’ the Woods in cooperation with the Seattle Department of Parks and Recreation.  The group’s projects include removing invasive plants, repairing degraded trails and using the Woods as a platform for environment education.

Their old site, powered by the Mambo content management system, no longer met their needs.  They wanted a more user-friendly content management system.  It was important that multiple group members be able to work on the site.  They  also wanted a photo gallery to showcase the Woods and their work.  While the group wanted a lot of new things, but they wanted to retain the look and feel of their existing site.

With the help of WordPress I was able to give them exactly what they wanted.  WordPress isn’t just for blogs.  It’s also a great platform for websites.

I developed a custom WordPress theme that matched the look of their site.  One of the group members already knew how to use WordPress so she trained the others to add and update content. I found a photo gallery plugin and the new Friends of Madrona Woods site is up and running.

If you have a group website that needs an update please contact me.  I’d be happy to discuss the possibility of replacing your current system with WordPress.
