WordPress 3.4, called the Green release in honor of Grant Green, has arrived!  The main feature upgrades are:

  • You can easily embed Tweets
  • Image captions can now include HTML giving you the power to add links, bolding and more to your captions
  • For themes that support it (and I hear that most of them do) you’ll be able to change theme settings and preview the changes before you make them live.  They’ve also made it easier to switch out header images.

When WordPress updates its software plugin developers (the people who make contact form plugins, share this page tools and the rest) have to make sure that their software works with the latest version of WordPress.   There are a lot of under-the-hood changes to this upgrade that could impact the way that plugins function. So I’m going to wait until the weekend to move to WordPress 3.4.  I want to give the plugin developers time to update their code if needed.

Whenever you update, remember to back up your WordPress installation before you begin.   If this is your first update, prepare to be amazed. It’s really easy!
