WordPress 4.4, named “Clifford” in honor of jazz trumpeter Clifford Brown, was released on December 8th.  While this seems to be a good, solid release there are a few issues:

  • if you’re running an aMember site with WordPress you might hold off updating for a few days.  I’m seeing some reports of conflicts.  I have no doubt that the folks at aMember will get this figured out soon.
  • Take a quick look at this master list of issues and see if you have any of the plugins or themes mentioned in this post.
  • In 4.4 the “get shortlink” function has been removed.  If you’re like me and used it frequently, you can replicate the functionality with the Shorter Links plugin add a line of code to your functions.php file to get the code back. See my 1/18/16 post for details.

Now that I’ve got the warnings out of the way here’s the good news, I’ve updated a few installations and had no problems. If you decide to update remember to back up your database and files first.
