Today I dealt with an interesting WordPress problem. I logged into a WordPress site to edit a post and instead of seeing the post I saw this:

Problem with Editor

The post wasn’t visible. There were no editing icons. And yet, the post was there and looked fine when viewed as a site visitor.

There can be different causes for this issue. However I received a big clue when I noticed there was a JavaScript error on the page. The error message read, “tinymce is not defined.”

WordPress Problem SolvedI discovered the problem was a Sucuri setting. I’d hardened the wp-includes folder and in this case it caused the editor to not load. (This is unusual. I’ve hardened the wp-includes folder on numerous sites and have not had this happen.) I reversed the hardening and the editor became visible. Problem solved!
